About

I obtained my PhD from the University of Birmingham in 2003, after evaluating a rehabilitation programme for male domestic violence perpetrators - the first in the UK to be conducted from a psychological perspective.

Since that time I have continued to research domestic violence, exploring the developmental impact of exposure on child development, risk for domestic violence over time, and the intergenerational transmission of violence, using the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) (see www.alspac.bris.ac.uk).

My recent work has included writing offending behaviour programmes for a regional probation trust and conducting literature reviews for the Ministry of Justice in order to inform their work with domestic violence perpetrators.

I am the director of the Violence and Interpersonal Aggression (VIA) resarch group, formed at the start of 2011 as part of the Centre for Applied Resarch in Psychology. Within this group we have experts in: Family violence (including domestic violence); Sexual Violence; Youth violence (including bullying and dating violence), and Interpersonal aggression (aggression examined as a dimensional aspect of personality). It is my aim to evolve this group into a regional centre of knowledge transfer on issues relating to violence and aggression.

If you would like to become affiliated with this research group please contact me for details.
