I am a Principal Lecturer in Social Work and a National Teaching Fellow (2009). I am also Co-Director for Applied Research Group in Social Exclusion in Social Care.
I have been working at Coventry University since 1993 as a social work academic, educational developer and action researcher. Prior to this I worked as a professional social worker in Bradford. I have been and continue to be actively involved in community based anti-racist activism and is a passionate advocate for social justice and human rights.
I have published widely on the subject of anti-racism and anti-oppressive practice. More recently, I have been working on tackling and preventing hate crimes with agencies and front line practitioners across the West Midlands region of the UK.
I have just completed a project related to Critical Padagogy and Popular Education. It involved producing a series of conversational podcasts with leading practitioners of critical pedagogy and distributing these are learning objects.
